Welcome to CQ Premmies, The needs of parents in Central Queensland are unique. There are no large hospitals here. Parents of infants born very premature have to leave there homes for many months while their baby is cared for in one of the large tertiary hospitals. Often Mum is with their prem baby while Dad must stay at home due to work commitments and / or to care for the baby’s older siblings. Even when you bring your prem home the challenges continue. Follow up health care for your prem often means having to regularly travel long distances to Mackay or Rockhampton. Distance also means that it is not possible for CQ mums to easily meet face to face to share information and experiences like their counterparts in Brisbane and the larger regional centres. CQ Premmies has been established to help overcome this. It will allow CQ prem parents to help each other to navigate the often difficult journey of parenting a prem.
